Employer Matching
Many companies have programs through which they will match the charitable contributions made by their employees. Through corporate gift matching, your employer can multiply your gift to Maria House and Teresa Shelter, making it go further.

Check with your company's Human Resource Office to see if they offer gift matching. (If they don't, you may want to ask your company to start one.) If your employer does offer this program, your Human Resource Office should be able to provide you with a matching gift form to send to Maria House and Teresa Shelter along with your donation. Complete this form and mail it with your donation to:

  • Maria House
  • Attention: Development and Marketing Director
  • 1561 Jackson Street
  • Dubuque, Iowa 52001

Our Development Director will verify receipt of your gift and return the form to your company for matching funds.

Conditions and criteria for gift matching vary by employer. Some companies offer a payroll deduction plan. For more information or if you are not sure if Maria House and Teresa Shelter qualify for your company's gift-matching program, call the Development Director at (563) 582-7480 and we'll be glad to send information about our mission and programs.

In-Kind Donations
Maria House and Teresa Shelter continually seek in-kind product donations to help keep our operating costs low, but ask that you understand we accept donations only on an as-needed basis. Both programs are bursting at the seams, and we are unable to store donated items that cannot be immediately used. Due to insufficient storage and sorting capacity, Maria House and Teresa Shelter can accept only donations for items listed on our Wish List.

Donations of furniture or other large items can be accepted only if we are aware of a client in need at the time of the donation, and if storage of such items is not required. All donations must be in excellent condition and not require any repairs. Gifts of materials, equipment, etc. must be approved IN ADVANCE. Delivery should not be scheduled or accepted without preapproval. If we are unable to accept your donation, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and can suggest other worthy organizations in our area.

To arrange delivery or to clarify our needs or in-kind donation policy, please contact the Development and Marketing Director at (563) 582-7480.

Boiler Buddies
Opening Doors is seeking “Boiler Buddies” to off-site the costs associated with an unbudgeted $54,000 boiler that was installed at the Maria House in the fall of 2010. Thanks to the media and generous tri-state shelter supporters, including an anonymous $12,000 gift and a $5,000 grant from Alliant energy,  contributions to the fund have recouped almost two-thirds of the costs. Because the shelter also shared a water line with the church, additional excavation work has added to the cost of this project.  Unfortunately, this is money that was not budgeted.
Tax-deductible “Boiler Buddy” cash donations can be mailed to Opening Doors, 1561 Jackson Street, Dubuque, IA 52001. You can also click here to make an online donation.  Type in “Boiler Buddy” on the DESIGNATE MY DONATION box.

Opening Doors Dollars
The staff at Opening Doors are always looking for opportunities for our residents to be successful in their goal setting.  Our new Opening Doors Dollars Incentive Program rewards all of their milestones...big and small!  Many times a lot of small steps in the right direction can measure up to self sufficiency down the road.  You can help!  Find out how by clicking here.

Donor Privacy Statement
