Volunteer
Staff and volunteers alike represent Maria House and Teresa Shelter, so we believe it is important to empower each volunteer with a greater understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness.
Maria House and Teresa Shelter are dedicated to preparing volunteers with the knowledge they require to become an integral part of helping the residents achieve success with their endeavors in becoming independent and productive citizens.
Our hope is that volunteers benefit as much from their experience as Maria House and Teresa Shelter benefit from the volunteers who give back to the agency and the people we serve.
Maria House and Teresa Shelter are always seeking volunteers to help in a variety of capacities.
Some of our volunteer opportunities include:
- help cook the evening meal for Maria House residents
- teach the residents how to budget and prepare a meal
- provide daytime support at Teresa Shelter
- help with fundraising activities and special events
- assist with clerical and administrative needs
- help with facility maintenance and repairs.
If you have the time and talent to share, we would love to have you join our team!
Prospective volunteers must complete the following steps before being assigned with any volunteer position:
- Email Judy Kenniker, Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@openingdoorsdbq.org, or call Opening Doors at (563) 582-7480.
- Complete an interview and application, sign a confidentiality statement, and submit to a criminal background check when necessary.
We are so grateful for the time and talents shared by our volunteers! Maria House and Teresa Shelter could not operate without their support.
